Frequently Asked Questions
Who can get a library card?
Library cards can be issued to Leicester residents and
non-residents who present a valid ID with a current address.
If your ID does not show your current address, a piece of mail
or utility bill is acceptable for proof of address. Minor
children must have a parent or guardian's
signature.
How many items can I have checked out at one time?
There is no limit for most materials. Patrons may borrow
up to 2 new DVDs at one time, and there is a limit of 4 books
per subject for non-fiction.
Can I use my Auburn/Spencer/Worcester/etc. card in
Leicester? Can I use my Leicester card in
Auburn/Spencer/Worcester/etc.?
Not at this time. Leicester Public Library is an online
affiliate member of C/WMARS, and these libraries are all C/W
MARS member libraries. Leicester library cards are only good in
Leicester. If you have a C/WMARS library card from another
library, you can order books from other libraries and have them
delivered to Leicester Public Library. See the
ILL page for details. Other libraries
may have different borrowing rules.
What type of media can be checked out from the library?
The library has a variety of materials for you to choose from.
Books, DVDs, Books on CD, children's books and media,
playaways, magazines and Museum Passes can be found
in the Library's local catalog by
clicking here, or in the
C/W
MARS Regional Catalog. The library also maintains a small
collection of VHS tapes.
How long are your check out periods?
Most items, including books, books on CD, magazines, etc. can be
checked out for three weeks. DVDs have a one week loan period.
What will I be charged for overdue books, DVDs, etc.?
You will be charged .10 cents per day for overdue books,
magazines and cds, up to $1.00 maximum per item. You will
be charged $1.00 per day for overdue VHS and DVD materials, up
to a maximum of $5.00 per item.
How long can I use the computer?
You may sign up to use a computer for one hour. If no one
is waiting, you may have additional time at the discretion of
library staff. There are 6 public terminals on the main
floor and 3 in the children's room. Adults not accompanied
by children are asked to use the computers on the main floor.
All computers connect to the Internet and have OpenOffice
software available.
Can I print documents?
Yes. Printing from a computer in the Adult or Children's area
sends the job to a local color printer. The cost is 15
cents per page for text, $1.00 per page for pictures, 50 cents
for half page of pictures. Printing from the wireless
network is not available.
Can I return books from another library?
Yes. We will check in all materials belonging to another
C/W MARS library and the item will be sent back via the
delivery van. We cannot return items belonging to the local
school district or out-of-state materials as they are part of a
different system.
Do you have a private meeting room?
The current library does not have a private meeting room, but
plans for the renovated library do include meeting space.
Is your Library handicapped accessible?
Only part of our 1895 building is accessible to patrons with
mobility issues. If you have questions about or need
accommodations for mobility, hearing, vision or other issues,
please contact the library staff before your visit.
Do you take donations?
Yes, we gladly accept donations of books, magazines, and
audio-visual materials. We will give you a receipt for your
records, but we cannot assign a value.
Do you have town records for genealogy/research?
We have vital statistics for most Massachusetts towns up to
1850. We have a variety of materials related to Leicester
and Massachusetts history.
Do you have a public fax?
Yes. Our fax machine is for outgoing faxes to 508 and toll
free numbers only. We cannot receive faxes for patrons.
